Born in Shivamogga, Karnataka, into a Konkani family, Nithin Kamath grew up in a household where his father was a Canara Bank executive and his mother taught the veena; the family shifted to Bengaluru in 1996, placing him near India's emerging equity culture just as retail broking was being democratized.

He also co-founded True Beacon, an investment management firm, with his brother Nikhil — extending the family-partnership model into asset management and reinforcing how the brothers have treated personal capital, trading acumen and product-building as parts of one continuous portfolio.

Nikhil Kamath, the younger brother, runs financial planning at Zerodha and is described internally as an astute and experienced investor; his trading skill was what originally pushed the two to formalise the brokerage rather than continue trading only their own book.
