Nandan Nilekani on Founder Culture

Nandan Mohanrao Nilekani, born in Bangalore, is the Indian entrepreneur who co-founded Infosys and serves as its non-executive chairman. He returned to that post on 24 August 2017 after Vishal Sikka's exit, replacing the dual-chair structure of R Seshasayee and Ravi Venkatesan. As of late 2025 he was ranked the hundredth-richest person in India with a net worth of about three point two billion dollars.

Nilekani's father was General Manager of Mysore and Minerva Mills and subscribed to Fabian socialist ideals, which shaped his son's early worldview. The family is Konkani-speaking, originally from Sirsi, and his elder brother Vijay works in the United States at the Nuclear Energy Institute — a transatlantic family footprint that mirrors Nilekani's later global roles.

After attending Bishop Cotton Boys' School in Bangalore and St Joseph's in Dharwad, Nilekani completed his Pre-University at Karnatak College before taking a bachelor's in electrical engineering from IIT Bombay.
